Cops addressing a robbery alert contact went to the incorrect home because of inadequate lighting and fatally taken an equipped house owner, according to a look for guarantee affidavit launched Wed.
Officers B.B. Hanlon and R.P. Hoeppner were sent to 409 Havenwood Road at 12:51 a.m. May 28. But after coming at 12:58 a.m., they "inadvertently started searching" across the road at 404 Havenwood, where 72-year-old Jerry Waller resided.
Officers "approached the western part of the home near the garage area that is situated on the south western area of the property with the information that there was a possible robbery in improvement. There is no lighting around the property and the authorities had only the use of their Wall Lights," according to the affidavit.
As the authorities contacted, they experienced Waller, who "was equipped with a gun status near the area of the property," according to the affidavit.
